TRANSNANOPOWDER aims to reach stable quality nonoxide nano-powders produced in a technical scale by plasma synthesis.


Transfer in the technical scale
The use of nonoxide nano-powders is restricted to only few applications (e.g. coatings or additives in composites for the generation of special properties) at the moment. This is caused by the relative high price and difficulties in their processing at present. The nano-powder production in a technical scale with constant quality is the bases for the growing industrial use of promising nano-materials.


The project is based on the large experiences of the project partners in powder production and material development based on nano-powders.

Interdisciplinary work of the project team
The project TRANSNANOPOWDER has the aim to reach stable quality nonoxide nano-powders produced in a technical scale by plasma synthesis. This goal has to be reached by using know how and technology transfer, and by the implementation of advanced quality management techniques. The quality of the two types of powders -silicon nitride and a carbonitride of transition metals-, chosen in the project, will be demonstrated in prototypes. One prototype would be a bearing based on nano silicon nitride. The reduced wear and friction and other improved properties of the nano-materials offer large economic and social effects.

The interdisciplinary work of the partners - powder producer materials producer and user of the materials - are the basis for the successful working inside the project.

Know how transfer
An information and consulting centre for the processing of nonoxid nano powders and materials and a database will ensure the focusing of experience and accelerate the the technology and innovation transfer in industrial applications.
